According to Aquila's Head Ranger, Memory Khumalo, they've been tracking a male, female and their 6-month-old cub for some time. "On Thursday the 15th of December, I heard from Divan that there was a fresh leopard kill and went to investigate. At this time of the year, male springboks are more often targeted by leopard, as females are about to drop their young" he said.
"The female leopard has clearly expanded her territory as is evidenced by her kill, thousands of hectares from where we first tracked her and her cub. Aquila is privileged to have them as they do natural culling, which is a good sign of a balanced ecosystem," he concluded.
Cape Leopards are an endangered species, so we are overjoyed that the Aquila property is providing a source of food and a sustainable future for leopards.

DATE: 18TH DECEMBER 2017 - AMAZING LEOPARD SIGHTINGS AT AQUILA
The teams at Aquila have been tracking leopard for some time, monitoring their behaviour, kill patterns and movements. This week, we captured the most stunning footage of the most recent kill!
Aquila’s live-in conservationist, Divan Grobler, shares that “Brandon Lynx, the guide on the morning horseback safari, noticed that there was a dead springbok. I went out to investigate and noticed that there were leopard tracks and fresh saliva on the springbok’s neck where the puncture wounds were. We strategically positioned two camera traps at 1.5 and 6 metres respectively, away from the carcass. When we retrieved the camera traps the next morning, we found incredible footage of mom and her cub, who’d returned for their kill.”
